Not quite the best Windows installer ever

This was the error message that greeted me when I tried to install the new iTunes for Windows: "1607: Unable to install IntallShield Scripting Runtime."

I tried following all the directions that InstallShield provides on their site for how to fix this error. None of it helped. (My favorite step: "Install the Windows Installer engine." The InstallShield installer needs to use the Microsoft installer engine to work?)

The step that finally did work? I created another administrator user on my XP box and launched the iTunes installer as that user. Then it worked fine.

This is, unfortunately, fairly typical of my experience trying to install products built with InstallShield. Why Apple picked that as an installer is beyond me.

Hello,

I know that you don't know me from Adam, BUT I would like to sincerely thank you for helping me. What did you do? I purchased a game (Far Cry) off of Ebay and have not been able to get it to install for the past three days. I kept getting the infamous "1607: Unable to install IntallShield Scripting Runtime." error message. First I called Ubisoft and they could not figure out why I had the problem. So after talking to two people I reached a supervisor who had even less knowledge than those under him. The end result was him telling me to try using the reccomended steps from Install Shield. I told him that I tried those and it did not work. He then grew fustrated with me (I don't know why, I guess he thought I was lying.). His ONLY solution was for me to re-format my hard drive and then try to reinstall. RE-FORMAT!!! Idiot. Anywho.... after searching on google for answers, I tried them all... No luck. I just happened to try the same search in Google and clicked "Images" this time led me to your web site. I saw your suggestion and thought it could not hurt, since I have tried everything else. Lo and behold......It worked!!!!!!!!!!!! I am such a happy camper now, thanks to your advice. So if at anytime you think that no one is paying attention to your website then guess again. Your efforts are not in vain! Keep up the good work. Thanks again, so much.

Sincerely,

The other Mike

I am having the same trouble and would very much like to do as you did. However, with my limited knowledge, could you tell me how to "create another administrator?" I am sooooo frustrated and tired of dealing with both Microsoft and Apple. Thanks.

I have the same problem!! I have been debating on jumping off a bridge, or old fashioned rope, rafter, and chair. How do I creat a new administrator? Hurry, before I do myself in!!

To create an administrator account on Windows XP just click start, then control panel, then users, then create another user named whateveryoulike. then log off, when you log back on you should be able to install the itenes...
